Underground PetNat Albariño 2024

Viña Progreso – Canelones, URUGUAY

  • About

Pét-nat – pronounced „pet-naa“ – is short for Pétillant Naturel, which in English simply means „naturally bubbling“. It is a return to the old, original tradition of sparkling wine production. Pét-nats stand for authentic craftsmanship in mostly small quantities and for a natural handling of wine.

Albariño has been planted in northern Spain since the 12th centuary and has thrived there but more recently was introduced to Uruguay some 20 years ago and today it is Uruguay's most celebrated white wine grape and its wines have been internationally recognized for increasingly top quality.

In the Progreso Valley just outside Montevideo clay soils and warm maritime climate they are able to make a superb example of this wine with fine and elegant aromas, combined with a naturally crisp acidity.

Lots of fresh, crisp citrus fruit like lemon zest, green apple, ripe melon, nectarine, peach, pear, and apricot all wrapped up in a clean saline acidity. A very refreshing way to welcome Springtime.
